Surely Tennis is a hard skill to learn? How can a 2-year-old play tennis?

A lot of what we do in Toddler Tennis is based around developing the fundamental movement skills to be able to play tennis and other activities, not necessarily about learning the tennis technique. The main aim of our session is that the children have fun and enjoy being active! We use words that children will understand such as ‘star position’ ‘big swing’ ‘little push’ and we only spend about 8-10 minutes of the session on the specific theme i.e. forehand, backhand, volley and serve.

What does the class involve?

There are 4 main elements to a Toddler Tennis Class, these are warm up, coordination, tennis specific and game. There are usually 4/5 different activities within a session to keep the children engaged throughout.

We have a coach ratio of 1:4 and we usually have a maximum of 8 children per class. We have also split classes down into TINY Toddler Tennis sessions for 2-3 year olds and Toddler Tennis TYKES for 3-5 year olds.

Is there anywhere I can buy a tennis racket and balls for my child if we want to practice outside of classes?

Yes of course, we definitely encourage this to keep the children practicing at home. The best place to look is online on Amazon. Usually if the child is 2 years or particularly small for their age and we would recommend you get a 17 inch tennis racket (smallest racket).

Where does my child progress to once they are good enough or old enough to move on?

Prior to starting any Toddler Tennis session, we establish links with local tennis clubs and coaches in the area so that we can create a pathway for our children once they are ready to fly the Toddler Tennis nest! The coach will usually decide when to move the child up and this is often once the child is 5 years old or when they can consistently hit the ball over the net.

My child loves Toddler Tennis, how can I ensure they can continue next half term?

Don’t worry! If your child is already on the programme and you continue to pay the monthly subscription your space will always be secure.

What happens if my child starts attending sessions part way through? Will I have to start paying direct debit from that date?

No, once your child has attended their free trial we will calculate how many weeks are left before the first direct debit payment is taken (i.e. 1st of the month). We will then take that amount upfront from account as a one off payment.
